CARE AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE FOR
RAPCO™ CARBIDE TIPPED SAW CHAINS

This guide is not intended to replace the original chainsaw manufacture’s Instructions

Chainsaw Safety Tips

  • Run the saw at full throttle
  • Wrap your thumb completely around the handle
  • Wear personal protection equipment
  • Keep your left arm straight but not locked
  • Keep the saw properly maintained
  • Use both hands
  • Stand to the side of the saw when cutting
  • Never horse around with a running saw

Important Points to Consider:

  • Carbide chain is not indestructible!
  • Make sure you have the chain designed for your application.
  • Chain designed for wood cutting will be damaged by impacting with rock, stone, concrete, or hardened metals.
  • Our tough carbide can withstand more impact but can still be damaged by impact with metals, or other hard objects.

When breaking in a new chain, run it at a low speed for two minutes, pumping extra oil on the chain. Stop motor and check tension again. If it has loosened, tighten it to the correct tension. Check again after a few easy cuts and readjust if necessary. Keeping your chain properly tensioned, will extend its life and enhance its cutting performance.

If you have any questions or concerns about the instructions below, don’t hesitate to call our friendly staff at 800-959-6130.

TENSION

  • Tighten tension screw.
  • Hold bar tip up while tightening the stud nuts.
  • Pull chain around bar to be sure it fits sprocket and bar.
NOTE: Chain is properly tensioned when with some effort, with a gloved hand, you are able to pull the chain smoothly around the bar. Chain should touch the underside of the bar rail.

LUBRICATION

  • Use only a good grade of bar oil.
  • Lubricate your chain properly. Pump the oiler often while cutting.
NOTE: If your chainsaw is not equipped with an automatic oilier, make sure oil is being thrown from the nose of the bar before cutting. Use a full tank of oil with every tank of fuel.
  • For special applications you may want to modify the oil.
NOTE: For instance, when cutting composition roofing materials, you can add up to 25% kerosene or diesel fuel to help stop build up of tar on chain.

SHARPENING

  • Sharpening of RAPCO™ carbide chain requires specialized diamond-abrasive tools.
    1. Flat facing is done using a 4A2P style diamond wheel.
    2. Round facing is done using an EZE-LAP Diamond, or a contoured diamond wheel.
